What is Clomid?
Clomiphene citrate is the medical term used for Clomid. It is the brand name of this medicine. It is mostly in the form of pills. The pills are effective with minimal side effects. They are not expensive drugs. So, these are widely used by many woman after doctor’s consultation.
How Does Clomid Work?
The clomid has an ingredient called clomiphene citrate, which is an anti oestrogen pill. This action will stimulate the hormones which in turn will alert the ovaries to release an egg. First, this medicine will send signals to the brain to trigger the hormones that in turn will stimulate the ovaries to prepare for the release of the egg. They are called as follicle stimulating hormone or FSH. So, every time you have your pill, the FSH will send signals to ovaries to prepare eggs. Once your drug cycle is over, the luteinising hormone to alert the ovaries to release the mature egg into one of the fallopian tubes.
How Long After Clomid do You Ovulate?
Good question. How long after clomid do you ovulate? This medicine can be taken for about five days after your menstrual cycle. But, this basically depends on each one’s menstrual cycle. For some, the period time may be for three to seven days. After taking the last medicine pill, ovulation process will start within five to nine days. Many of the doctors recommend for an ultrasound of the ovaries during the first cycle.
They want to check whether ovaries have started preparing eggs and whether they are releasing them into one of the fallopian tubes.
How Long Should the Medication continue?

The Side Effects of Clomid Intake
Clomid does have some mild side effects like mood swings, headache, fatigue and breast tenderness. There is sometime some change in the cervical mucous for 30 % of the women.
But some women become prone to OHSS, Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome. It is the formation of cyst, making them to swell in size. Sometimes this may lead to disorders in the functioning of kidneys, collection of fluid in lungs and stomach, or twisting of the ovaries.

In fact 70% to 90 % of the women ovulate after the third cycle. About 40 % of the women are pregnant after this treatment within the third cycle. There are chances of multiple pregnancies after clomid intake. but, make sure that you discuss the consumption of this drug with your medical practitioner.
