Clonazepam is good for the Treatment of Epilepsy

What is Clonazepam (Clonazepan)?

It is a prescription medicine useful in treating many types of epileptic seizures and panic disorders.  Seizures related with the form of severe epilepsy, akinetic seizures associated with ‘drop attacks’, Absence seizure connected with decreased awareness can be alleviated with the regular use of clonazepam.

Medicinal Effects

Clonazepan is one of the medicines in benzodiazepines group.  Normally Benzodiazepines create several effects on the body such as sleepiness, reduction in anxiety, controlling seizures, muscles relaxation, and loss memory for a short period.  All the medicines in benzodiazepine group have more or less the same type of effects.  The medicine works with the brain chemical, GABA to calm the situation.  The effect of the medicine can stop or slow down some nerve signals of the brain. Due to this reason, clonazepam and other benzodiazepines are considered to be CNS depressants and mild tranquilizers.

Dosage Information

Clonazepam is usually taken in the form of wafers and tablets.  It has to be taken orally two or three times everyday.  The wafer can melt easily in your mouth.  Take the medicine according to the advice of your physician.  As per schedule, if the medicine is not taken, it is better not to take a double dose. It is better that you skip the missed dose.  Regular high dosage or irregular dosage can prove to be detrimental to your health.  The intake of the medicine can vary to person to person and depending upon age, treatment, and other health problems.

Be Cautious about Side Effects

Everyone does not experience the side effects from clonazepam, but there are cases with side effects.  If the side effects are minor, they do not require any treatment, or you can get help from your physician.  Common side effects are coordination trouble, drowsiness and behavior problems.  If the side effects are serious by nature, report immediately to your healthcare provider.

Clonazepan – The Negatives

When clonazepam combines with alcohol, it will increase memory loss, drowsiness and confusion.  It is better not to consume alcohol, if you take clonazepam.  If any anesthetic is taken along with this medicine, there is a chance of the side effects to be very serious.
Antidepressant medicines and Antipsychotic medicines escalate the side effects.  Adding a barbiturate with clonazepam intake can increase your difficulty in breathing.  Be careful with the potentially negative interactions of clonazepam.

i had been taking paroxitine 12.5 and tofranil 20 for one whole year.
the year went very great without any problems of anxiety.

i stopped them a month before gradually and am presently without antidepressants.

once in 2 to 3 days i feel uneasy during the evening and i take clonazepam .25 ie half of .50 .

is it ok to continue antidepressants dosage @ 20 mg for several years.
i feel that i was better with them.
my psychiatrist says that my dose of 12.5 + 20 mg is a very low dose and can be continued for long time.

what if i continue like this and use clonazepam as required once in few days. is it safe or paroxitine is better.

    please comment.
i will sure consult my doc before doing any thing.
