The Pros and Cons of Drug testing in schools
Of late, multitude of school management has begun implementing drug testing in schools. The higher authorities at school consider that these tests often prove to be a measure of the performance and security among students who have got habituated to drugs. These drug tests pose as a major cause for students to abstain themselves from drug usage. In addition to this, these tests at school prove to be a methodology of screening the school students. Irrespective of whether this practice is good or bad, the practice of drug testing in educational institutions is becoming famous with time.
Pros of Drug Testing In Schools
The governmental statistics reports state that the number of teenagers who get habituated to drug usage is on the rise. Amidst such a situation, these tests help in creating a fear among adolescents and force them to keep themselves away from the usage of drugs.
Students who foresee the consequence of getting caught in such tests generally tend to stay away from drugs. Students who are afraid of being expelled from school and students who fear the punishment from their parents prefer to stay away from drugs.
Is this practice mandatory?
This question is tough to answer, though drug testing in schools is becoming popular even today; these tests require the permission from parents. Strict policies emphasize that there should be a legitimate reason for conducting such tests. They can only be requested in case if a teacher notices a student with melancholy eyes or if he/she lacks concentration and answers impertinently when questioned.
Drug Testing for Athletes in Schools
This is one of the very popular practices that is implemented to identify the dopes among athletes at school. Reports stand in testimony to the fact that male sportsmen are more prone to drugs than women athletes. These tests not only help identifying the usage of drugs among athletes but also prevent serious injuries during the sports competition at schools.
Cons of Drug testing in Educational Institutions
Such exams often prove to be a violation of privacy of the school students.
In case of random tests, the students who test positive may not have posed as a problematic student in the history of the school. In such cases, the student is unnecessarily expelled and sent to rehabilitation schools. Such consequences spoil the life of the student and bring his/her productivity to zero.
The Debate Continues
Whether it is acceptable or not, drug testing in schools is on the rise and experts allege that such tests prevent students from getting habituated to drugs and thereby pave way to the betterment of school students across the globe.

I totally agree with the author of this article because our athletes at my school are getting drug tested when the real problem is with the non-athletic students. I happen to be a student athlete myself, and I based my research paper on your article.(dont worry about plagerism. I cited all of my work.)

Ok, so let me get this straight. The real problem is the general student body that doesn’t participate in sports? I think thats your point. So just because the jocks of your school (including yourself)haven’t been CAUGHT with any type of drug simply means that the rest of the student body are the ones with “a drug problem”? I don’t know why I can’t follow your infallable logic but, alas, it eludes me completely.
