How Long Does Alcohol Stay in Urine?

This image was first published in 1 st or 2 nd...Image via WikipediaTo understand the timeframe for which alcohol stays in urine, its important that you know the passage of alcohol through our body.

As soon as you consume alcohol, it enters the bloodstream. The Blood-Brain layer is the lining of epithelial cells that lie near the blood capillaries. Alcohol enters this layer within 30 seconds from its entry into the blood.. When this happens, it interferes with nerve cell communication, blurs your vision and disrupts your speech. The legal limit of blood alcohol concentration is .08 and this threshold is reached just by consuming 4 drinks in one hour.

Alcohol then enters the stomach and this happens within 5 minutes since consumption. 20 of the alcohol intake stay here. It then floats through the protective mucus and in turn generates hydrochloric acid which in turn depletes the protective mucus in the stomach causing bleeding and heartburns.

In the 20 minutes timeframe since the consumption of alcohol, the remaining 80% reaches the small intestine. Here, the alcohol disrupts the absorption of sodium/ water and reduces the rate of metabolism thereby causing under nourishment in acute alcohol addicts.

When it comes to what alcohol does to the heart, it’s a fact that limited intake of alcohol not only helps in having healthy arteries but also increases the levels of plaque which in turn helps in expelling HDL cholesterol from our body. Alcohol intake that exceeds the threshold level is likely to cause constriction of blood vessels which in turn raises the pressure of the blood resulting in causing strain during the pumping of the blood.

90% of the alcohol consumed is expelled out through the liver. The rate of absorption of alcohol by the blood is much higher than the rate of expulsion of the same by the liver. Drinking alcohol beyond limits results in the generation of collagen and free radicals which in turn eats up the healthy liver cells.

5% of alcohol consumed drops into the air sacs of the liver. The air sacs warm up the alcohol and vaporize the same. Long term alcohol usage results in depletion of a vital antioxidant in liver leaving the liver prone to infections

Five percent of alcohol that was absorbed by the blood gets out of the body through urine. Alcohol interferes with the release of vasopressin, a hormone that aids the kidneys in conserving fluid in our body by concentrating the urine expelled. The average time taken for the expulsion of alcohol via urine is 20 minutes. But long term use of alcohol upsets the fluid balance in our body resulting in the clogging of waste within the body which in turn proves to be the cause of renal failure, heart attacks and brain damage.

  1. hom many hours does it take for alcohol to get out of your system

  2. Alcohol moves out of the system easily within 3-4 days since consumption. 12-24 hour time frame expels alcohol. but to be safe give a timeframe of 3-4 days for sure. This is with respect to urine. But in blood it might stay for a longer time. In hair, you cannot be sure. It can even stay for months with ease.
