Opiates, one of the illicit drugs that is often tested in drug tests is prepared from the opium poppy. The derivates obtained are heroin, oxycodone, methadone, morphine and hydrocodone. The drug by itself and its derivatives are effective and powerful pain relievers and are in vogue even today.

Derivatives of Opiates

Heroin, one of the derivates of opium is an illicit substance and is not a prescription drug. It is available in contaminated form and is used by drug abusers for getting a euphoric sensation. Opiates can be taken orally or by injection. The painkiller like oxycodone is taken orally, and is generally swallowed with water. If it is bitten, crushed and injected, often tends to become overdose and is very likely to produce adverse effects. As heroin is the street drug and due to its availability only in contaminated forms, it has proven to cause disease like hepatitis B, HIV, AIDS and heart infection.

Methadone, yet another deriivative does not give a ‘high’ feeling like other derivatives of opiates. It is used as an alternative for heroine addicts.

Frequent use of opiates may damage the veins. In such cases hypodermic injection proves to be the only remedy. Once addicted to opiates, withdrawal from it, though inevitable is really miserable. The drug addicts do not know the potency of the opiates, and usually take higher quantity of the drug in order to get high. This often proves to be life threatening. The addicts need medical attention during the time of withdrawal and overdose.

It is essential to find out how long opiates stay in your system because the presence of even the opiates based substances such as heroin, morphine, opium and dihydrocodone results in positive results during drug tests.

How Long Does Opiates Stay in Your System?

As opiates and its derivates are fat-soluble by nature, they mix with the blood stream directly, and get access to the brain immediately. Opiates tend to get settled in the fat cells of the body and enter the blood stream again and again when the fat cells are burnt and energy is released. Depending upon the nature and potency of the opiates, it gets expelled out of the blood stream at different times. Getting to understand the exact time frame within which opiates gets out of your system is really tough since different people metabolize the drug in different time periods. It mainly depends upon the factors like age, mass, health and state of mind of a person.

Dosage and Potency Play Important Role

In urine tests, the drug tends to get detected for 2-5 days since its consumption. But it depends upon the quality and quantity used. As opiates remain in your system and gives pleasure for 6- 12 hours, the drug is believed to be visible for the same time frame in case of oral drug testes in which your saliva is taken as the sample. In case of hair drug test, it is detectable for a time frame of up to 3 months.

There are legal over-the-counter drugs, available to detox opiates from your system. It is better to purchase and use the most effective and powerful home test kit when it comes to passing the drug tests with ease.

I was told by friends working in oil fields that opiates are still detectable in hair drug test after several months, and like all drugs, it depends on your age, how long you took it, the frequency and various other variables.

I take about 10 oxycontin each 40 mgs a day (crushed for instant release).

I am seeking help for my addiction, but I am in the start of the process, and cannot go cold turkey every day yet. I slip up every once in a while, but I am getting better, considering my habit was over 40 oxycontin each 40 mgs a day (1600 mgs a day).

What I would like to know is how long will 10 oxycontin, each 40 mgs, so 400 mgs (crushed for instant release), done over the course of a day — how long will this show up on a drug test for oxycodone/oxycontin?

    Thanks for your help!

I am an occasional user of percocet (10 mg). I was wondering what the time frame of detection would be for saliva tests. I use percocet less than once a week (closer to like twice a month), but am tested randomly with saliva tests. I maintain good oral hygeine and use mouthwash regularly. I am wondering how long one high would remain in my saliva from the time of ingestion. I also wonder would this test pick it up. It is a lab saliva test that looks for the following: marijuana, cocaine, benzodiazepines, barbituates, PCP, amphetemines, and “opiates” which I don’t know if that refers to all opiods or merely natural opiates like morphine and codein. Please respond soon.

    Thank you for you time,
    Zach

brenna, sorry if you’ve already figured this out, but you don’t really have to wait until you’re vomitting. I can usually get away with taking my subs 8 hours after i use, but if I were you, wait somewhere between 12-24 hours. or until you puke, whichever comes first. Besides getting dope sick, nothing bad should happen from taking them too soon

you won’t die they say to wait 24 hours but by then you will be pretty sick if u can wait that long it will be better so the suboxone won’t make you sick if you can’t wait 24 hrs then wait at least 12 it never made me sick when i took it at 12 hours an di was shooting a gram or more of heroine a day good luck you are not alone
