Narcotic is a drug often used to relieve pain. It is used with the aim of getting excessive pleasure. Regular consumption of drug induces sleepiness and creates dullness.
What does the term narcotic means?
Narcotic has agents, which deaden or benumb, causing absence of feeling or paralysis. In Greek, it means benumbed or benumbing condition. The main items that have proven to be rich in narcotics are poppy juice, altercus [eclata] seeds and mandrake root. According to U.S. legal context, narcotic means opium, its derivatives and their fully synthetic or semi-synthetic substitutes. Coca leaves and cocaine are not considered as narcotics. Marijuana, LSD, steroids and psychedelic drugs are often popularly believed to be narcotic sources. It is not so. Any illegal or powerful drug denoted by the term ‘narcotic’ is illegal and unacceptable.
Proper Usage of the Drug
Narcotics may be administered in various ways. If the drug has taken as per the advice of the physician, it can be taken orally. For recreational purposes, the drug can be taken orally, snorted, smoked or by injection.
Beware of Side Effects
The ill effects of the drug heavily depend upon the dosage, length of usage of the drug and the expectation of an individual. The drug is useful in the treatment of cough, pain and severe diarrhea. It reduces the anxiety, tension and aggression. These effects are helpful in creating popularizing it as a recreational drug and a habit forming agent.
Narcotics are often associated with several side effects such as itching, sleeplessness, drowsiness, less concentration, dullness in physical movements, nausea, vomiting, constipation and depression. When the dosage is increased, the effects are more pronounced.
Overdose Risks
Excessive usage of narcotics leads to medical complications. The problem arises from the non-sterile practices of the users. The dependents of narcotics are in the habit of sharing their syringes and needles amongst HIV/AIDS patients, which often proves to be detrimental to health. The infection rates decrease when the dependents use disposable syringes.

The dependents often use the adulterated products. For an average person, it stays in the system for 2-3 days. Different people metabolize the drug in different levels.
