The Pros and Cons of Saliva Drug Testing
Research and Analysis done in the area of saliva drug testing reveal that these tests are reliable and accurate. Collection of sample is done with ease and the results are almost instantaneous. However, these drug tests have their own drawbacks and hence this doesn’t emerge out as the best solution for the detection of drugs
The Pros
Let’s get into the details of the advantages offered by the saliva drug test procedure.
1. The very big advantage of saliva drug test is that the sample collection is very easy. Unlike urine test where the sample collection is done in privacy necessitating the toilet facilities to be present at the venue of the drug test, saliva drug tests offer the convenience of collecting the sample in public posing no embarrassments. Saliva tests make use of a scrub. Scrub is similar to a toothbrush. A swab in the scrub replaces the bristles of a toothbrush. The scrub is dabbed back and forth between the gums and the lower part of the cheek for a couple of minutes and the saliva specimen is collected with ease.
2. The chances of adulteration are very minimal. Since saliva samples can be done in public, the examinee can be asked to collect the specimen in the presence of supervising personnel without violating the individual rights of the examinee. Test samples that are collected in privacy are prone for adulteration. This in turn leads to false test results.
3. The results of the saliva drug tests can be obtained instantly by using test kits available in the market. This is in contrast to the blood tests where a skilled person is required for sample collection. Even after getting the sample, the specimen has to be sent to the laboratory for further testing which in turn requires a lot of time.
4. Saliva drug tests are inexpensive since there is no complex process involved. Blood tests prove to be costly when compared to the saliva tests that are used to detect the presence of cocaine.
5. Saliva tests prove to be the ideal solution when it comes to on-duty screening. When an employer intends to test his employees for the influence of drug while at work, saliva test proves to be the perfect solution under such circumstances. Vehicle drivers can be put to these tests before commencing their trips. This in turn reduces the chances of road accidents effectively saving the lives of many.
The Cons
On a detailed analysis, the saliva drug tests have the following disadvantages associated with them
1. Drug consumption within the past 24 hour period can only be detected via the saliva tests. The examinee’s history of drug consumption cannot be revealed via the saliva tests. If the drug consumption within the last 3 month time frame is to be detected, hair follicle drug test has been proven to be the most viable and practical solution.

My wife is on probation for a offense several years ago. She told me that while out with friends she used cocaine on 07/04/2008, about one gram acording to her. I am wondering if this will show up in a saliva drug test that she has this Monday 07/14/2008 ? This is not a test that has immediate results it is sent to a lab for some sort of testing. There is not much information on here or the web in general regaarding these type of tests. Any help woul dbe appreciated. Thanks, Bill

i think she will pass, the saliva test is the cheapest least effective test there is , most companies use it because they dont want anyone to fail

Thanks for the response, I am suprised that a probation dept. would use a test if it is not reliable. I know for a fact that some of those people are dangerous. Anyone else have any other input? Thanks.

oh shut up….im on probation and im also a convicted felon, for simply possessing a drug for personal use. Does that make me “dangerous”? And what do u care if someone is getting high or not thats their business unless his/her means of obtaining money directly involves you and was illegal. If not, kick rocks bitch.

as much as you want to hear that she got locked up, she’s not going to cocaine is only detectable in saliva for 1-3 days, so go play chess against yourself or some shit, i don’t know find a life.

@Bill
Just now had a look at your post. For sure, your wife would have definitely passed the saliva test. This test just tells the influence of drug that has happened within the past few hours and not definitely days.

Well I did some coke on a Saturday night and into Sunday moring I had 2 report to probation Tuesday after noon and was given this same drug test and I failed! This test dose work and now I have an added term to my probation drug classes! I didn’t get thrown in jail thank goodness but now I must see my p.o. Every 2 weeks and she is testing me much more often. I think u were safe with the 10 days but I got cought 48 hours later! Its just not worth it! Probation is only for a short time and at risk of being the party popper just don’t do it. Also I just read on a different sight while coke is only in ur system for 2-3 days the toxin that ur body turns it into is in ur system for much longer up to 30 days and that toxin is what they are realy testing for.
The metabolite is what they are really testing for, Are you giving urine as your sample. Please let me know on this so that I can tell you more details. The sample that they take really is important

metabolites aren’t detectable in your saliva or blood, but in your urine because it is a waste product. Saliva and blood tests are for current or past recent use only.
