Urinary Track Infection in Dogs

If you are a pet owner, it is likely that you would have realized that female dogs are more prone to urinary track infection when compared to their male counterparts. Being one of the common problems that vets are forced to address on date, this health problem has proven to be complicated depending on the intensity of infection.

The Root Causes

Stone formation in the bladder is one of the very common root causes of the urinary infection in dogs. The stones in the bladder do not get formed in just one night but has proven to set in on a long term. Initially, they appear as crystals and in the long run get closely bundled and become a hard matter that gets deposited in the bladder. If your dog is suffering from bladder stone, you can start treating it using different methods. Dietary modifications and medicines would suffice. However, in case of acute cases, a surgery might also be essential.

Desiccation is yet another cause that leads to urinary infection in dogs. When your dog’s body gets dehydrated, the urinary track becomes prone to bacterial infections thereby leading to urinary track infections. The defensive mechanism that can prevent your dog from this problem is to provide harmless, fresh water to your dog at all time. Let the water that you give him not contain too much of mineral content too.

Unclean grooming can also lead to urinary track infection in dogs. When the genitals of your dog are not kept clean, it can automatically result in bacterial infections in the urethra and the urinary bladder of your dog. The best preventive methodology in this regard is to bathe and clean your dog often and ensure that his genitals are kept clean.

Treating Urinary Track Infections in Dogs
